Team Feed - Monday, May 17

Dear Parents of WRA Girls Track Team,

For those of you who don't know me, I am Bonnie Carter, mother of Mary Carter, one of the co-captains of the girls track team.

To celebrate the girls' season, I am organizing a "team feed" for the girls on Monday, May 17 to be held at the MAC (Morgan Athletic Center) at 6:00 p.m. We plan to grill hamburgers and hot dogs, eating out on the MAC patio, weather permitting. My husband and I will provide the sandwiches, but I could use your help with the side dishes.

If you live locally, please consider providing one of the following items to help make the team feed a fun event for the girls.

« Lettuce Salad
« Fruit Salad
« Side Dish
« Dessert
« Water
« Lemonade or soda

Please provide enough food to feed 25. I expect we will be serving between 50-60 people.

If you are able to supply an item, please drop it off at the MAC on Monday, May 17. I will be there by 5:00 p.m. And, if you can stay and eat, please join us!

Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. If you are able to help - many thanks! If not, I understand.

Bonnie Carter

Day Six and halfway through Day Seven

After our usual morning workout, it was laundry central at the Days Inn. We made the trek through the parking lot and past the Cuban restaurant to the coin laundromats and gained some economical insight. We've decided laundromats are more economical.
For lunch, it was the boy captains, Hobbs and Jonas, turn to go grocery shopping. That means barbecue chips, nutella, and oreos were bought in bulk. Once our stomachs settled, we headed out for the afternoon workout. The coaches took us all to do a nature run.....and the girls got lost. The men say it is because the girls can't follow directions, but the girls insist that the men just do not know how to give directions. It is the oldest battle of the sexes. Regardless, it was a great experience in the wilderness. When dinner time rolled around, the entire team went to SATCHELS. THE BEST PIZZA IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. A couple blogs ago, Leonardo's was mentioned. Satchels redefines pizza. The restaurant is an experience in itself. There is live music, a playground, a tree house, an old decked out VW van that serves as a booth, and a vintage shop attached to the restaurant.

Today, we've just finished up lunch and are still recovering from our timed trials today. The work out wasn't too hard, but the mental preparation for a timed trial is.......exhausting. Geno is getting ready to take some girls to the UF bookstore.

Days Four and Five

On Monday we wrapped up in St. Augustine and then headed to Gainesville, FL where the University of Florida is. We use their track to train in the mornings. When we got settled in, the whole team headed to Leonardo's Pizzaria, a track team favorite. It's a genuine college restaurant- cheap and delicious carbo loaded food. The rolls are the best part and are always served warm. If you ever find yourself in Gainseville, a trip to Leonardo's is necessary. After dinner, some of us went over to the Student Union where there is bowling, pool, DDR, and other arcade games. Hobbs and Ceara went to town on the DDR machine while Jack, Chase, Kofi, Mr. Gough, Chris May, and Puffer were styling with bowling shoes. It was a tough game of bowling...everyone was pretty evenly skilled until Jack pulled ahead at the last second.

Today, we started the day off with our first work out on the Gator Track, which is phenomenal. The work out was intense, but good for us. As G always says, "It feels so good when it hurts so bad." Words of wisdom.

For lunch, the captains went to the Winn Dixie (yes we are in the South) and got cold cuts, chips, yogurt, bananas, apples, grapes, carrots, cookies, nutella (a real crowd pleaser) and lots of Arnold Palmer (yet another favorite). We lay out all the food buffet style and eat as a team in the hotel. This is great for two reasons: 1. it saves money 2. team bonding. But of course, after such a feast we all go into a food coma and took naps either by the pool or in our rooms.

Currently, we just got back from an INTENSE game of ultimate frisbee in a local park. It was shirts vs skins, and the skins were suffering from a lack of numbers. But like any true underdog, they pulled ahead and won the game 10-7. Proof that it is not the quantity but the quality that trumps. Tonight, we look forward to another yummy dinner and lots of chill time.

Day Three

Today started out with a nice surprise. G dog let us sleep in until 8 instead of 6:30! Then we set out for a morning run just in time to beat the rain. The workout was more intense than yesterday, distance did repeat 800m and sprinters, repeat 400m.

Since it was raining today, the team headed over to the outlet malls for an afternoon. There was great shopping: American Apparel, Journeys (Jack Hoover bought a new pair of converse!) Gap and more. We found a T-shirt for sale for $140 too!! But we didn't buy it...a little outside the price range. Even though it rained today, we all still had a good time together.

This evening, Mr. Spriggs treated the team to dinner and games at David and Busters. He is one of the benefactors of our trip and is responsible for how economical it is. We've gone to David and Busters for a couple years now, and it's always a highlight. Ceara and Mr. Gough placed bets over Skeeball , and Mr. Gough won....so Ceara will be taking over one of his duty nights in Long House. We pulled together our tickets to buy a blender from the prize shop. That means we can make smoothies now!

Day Two of the Track Trip

Finally! We arrived in St. Augustine with a sunny greeting and headed straight to the beach today for a relaxing run. The girls bonded over the "truth" run (like truth or dare but no dares). After the workout, everyone branched off to enjoy different facets of beach recreation: laying out, swimming (the water was FRIGID...but refreshing), soccer, or if you're cool throwing (so says Boerio) and ultimate frisbee- the signature track trip game. We play ultimate almost everyday. Last night in Charlotte, the entire team played a competitive came of ultimate in the park. The energy was high and the sunset was beautiful. Tonight, most of us will head to Old Town St. Augustine for dinner. St. Augustine is the oldest town in America, first settled by the "conquistadores" from Spain. I highly recommend it for a vacation.
That's it for now! Catch up soon

Ladies-----
For those heading off to Florida, I am so excited about our imminent departure that I can almost taste it!!!!! I hope you have done at least a little running since Monday. For the others, once you start the Break, be safe, be healthy and Be Running. We're going to need to return hitting on all cylinders. Track aside, .......

PLEASE ENJOY SPRING BREAK. In addition to running, you do need to re-charge your batteries, and that may mean getting as much rest and relaxation as you can (without neglecting your conditioning, of course)!!!!!!

It's all about "Fire and Desire."
